Our Professionals

Our staff consists of mental health professionals , including Licensed Psychologists and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors. We divide our time between clinical work at the Human Development Center and professional positions in academic and clinical settings, which help us to integrate current knowledge with specialized expertise and skills in multiple areas.

Sandor (Alex) Szollos, PhD
Licensed Psychologist

Dr. Szollos received his initial psychology training at Lund University in Sweden; thereafter worked for several years as Staff Psychologist at the Lund University Medical School, treating adults and children with serious psychiatric disorders. He received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Connecticut and completed his internship at the Brown University Medical School, specializing in child and adolescent disorders. Dr. Szollos has been a clinician since 1976; following several years of private practice in the Baltimore area, he established his practice in Bel Air in 1989. He works with children, teens, adults and families in psychotherapy. His clinical expertise includes problems of early childhood, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, parenting problems of children and teens, marital problems, anxiety, depression and mood disorders. Before his retirement after 30 years of teaching in 2011, Dr. Szollos was a faculty member at the Department of Psychology, Millersville University of PA, teaching and training graduate students. He is a Member of the Association for Psychological Science, the Association for Behavior and Cognitive Therapy and a Fellow of the Maryland Psychological Association.

Hope Odenwalt, MS, LCPC
Registered Psychology Associate

Ms. Odenwalt holds a Master of Science Degree in Clinical Psychology from Millersville University of PA. Prior to joining our practice in 2005, she worked in mental health emergency services for several years and developed special expertise in suicide and homicide risk assessments. She works with children, teens, and adults. Her areas of expertise include the assessment and treatment of Asperger’s Disorder, psychological testing, child and teen disorders, anxiety and mood disorders, women’s issues, crisis intervention and addiction treatment. She has also special expertise in developing and directing social skills training programs for children and teens with Asperger’s Disorder. Ms. Odenwalt divides her time between her work at our Clinic and teaching as Adjunct Faculty in the Psychology Department at Millersville University. She is a member of the Eastern Psychological Association, the Pennsylvania Psychological Association, and the Pennsylvania Women’s Consortium.

Lori Gallup, PsyD
Licensed Psychologist

Dr. Gallup received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology, Arlington, VA. She completed her internship at Ancora State Hospital in New Jersey, where she treated chronically mentally ill adults and completed neuropsychological evaluations for forensic as well as neurological/rehabilitative purposes. She also completed externships at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and at Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital (Baltimore, MD), focusing on neurodevelopmental disorders, including learning disabilities, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Gallup is also a highly experienced School Psychologist; she has dual Master’s degrees in Reading and Special Education, as well as a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in School Psychology. As a School Psychologist she worked in both urban and rural settings, worked with juvenile delinquents and their families and supervised other school psychologists in forensic settings. Dr. Gallup also has special expertise in identifying unique learning strategies in academic settings. Dr. Gallup divides her time between her work at our Clinic and providing school psychological services for youth and their families with the Baltimore County Public School System.

Katherine Simone, MS, CAGS
Educational Advocate

Ms. Simone holds a Master of Science degree in Applied Educational Psychology from Northeastern University, Boston, where she also completed advanced graduate training in School Psychology. Ms. Simone brings a comprehensive perspective and a depth of expertise that goes above and beyond a background in special education. She has over two decades of experience working within school systems, directly supporting children and families.  Having worked as a School Psychologist in various states and counties across Maryland, she offers knowledge and experience in supporting all types of learners. Throughout her career, Ms. Simone has worked closely with students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, and other exceptionalities. She is highly experienced in collaborating with families and school teams to help develop plans and advocate for support to promote academic growth and success. Ms. Simone’s approach is all about understanding, clear communication, and being fully dedicated to helping children and their families. She brings clarity, care, and commitment to every case. Passionate about supporting families, she helps parents navigate the IEP and 504 processes. With her experience, she ensures parents get the right services and support to help their children succeed.

**Ms. Simone is a non-attorney educational advocate. Her goal is to support families by helping them understand the special education process and work collaboratively with schools. She is not a lawyer and cannot provide legal services.

Bernard P. Hennigan, LCPC
Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor

Bernard Hennigan obtained his master’s degree in School Counseling from Loyola University, Baltimore. Throughout his career, he has often divided his time between working in the public school system and providing mental health services. With over 15 years of experience in the mental health field, Mr. Hennigan is a dedicated therapist specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in the treatment of children, teens, and adults. In his clinical work he has helped patients manage a variety of challenges, including anxiety, depression, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, stress, and trauma, by guiding patients through evidence-based practices that encourage self-awareness and personal growth. In particular, he has been specializing in social skills and executive function training for pre-teens, teens and young adults as well as parent training in the management of children’s electronic devices and social media.  

Mr. Hennigan is committed to creating a warm, empathetic environment that fosters trust and collaboration. His approach is grounded in the understanding that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, and he works closely with patients to identify negative thought patterns and replace them with healthier, more productive ones. Whether working with children or adults, individuals, couples, parents, or groups, Mr. Hennigan tailors treatment plans to each patient’s unique needs, ensuring that therapy is both effective and empowering. He is passionate about helping patients achieve long-lasting positive changes and regain control of their mental and emotional well-being.

In addition to his extensive clinical experience, Mr. Hennigan has decades of experience working in the public school system and has intimate knowledge of the processes and inner workings of educational organizations.
